How to install and set up IPTV

To install IPTV: check your internet connection, install an IPTV player app from your device's app store, choose Xtream Codes or M3U login, and enter the details from your provider. The app then loads your channels and program guide. On most devices the whole process takes a few minutes.

How to set up IPTV in four steps

  1. 1

Check your connection. Run a speed test on the device you'll watch on. Plan on 5–8 Mbps per HD stream and 25 Mbps for 4K, and use Ethernet or 5 GHz Wi-Fi if you can. See internet speed for IPTV.

  2. 2

Install a player app. Open your device's official app store (Amazon Appstore, Google Play, App Store, Samsung Apps or LG Content Store) and install an IPTV player that supports Xtream Codes or M3U.

  3. 3

Enter your login. Your subscription comes as Xtream Codes (server URL, username, password) or M3U playlist URL. In the app, choose the matching option and type the details exactly, including any http:// and :port in the server URL.

  4. 4

Load the guide and test. Let the channel list and program guide finish loading, then try a few channels. If something isn't right, use the troubleshooting links below.

Xtream Codes or M3U: which login should you use?

If your app supports Xtream Codes, use it. It's three short fields (server URL, username, password), and the program guide usually loads automatically. Use the M3U URL if your app only accepts playlists, and add the EPG link separately if there is one. Each method has a detailed walkthrough: Xtream Codes login explained and M3U playlists explained.

Before you start

  • Update your device's system software, so the newest app versions install.
  • Have your login details ready, ideally on your phone, so you can read them while typing on the TV.
  • Set the correct time zone on your device, so program-guide times are right.
  • If you're setting up several devices, read using IPTV on multiple devices first.
