Xtream Codes login explained
By the IPTV Fox TV editorial teamLast reviewed 4 min read
Short answer
An Xtream Codes login is a way to sign in to an IPTV service with three details: a server URL, a username and a password. You enter them in a player app's "Xtream Codes" or "Xtream API" login screen, and the app loads live channels, on-demand content and the program guide automatically.

What "Xtream Codes" means today
Xtream Codes was originally the name of a piece of IPTV server software. The login method it used — a server address plus a username and password, accessed through a standard API — became so widely supported by player apps that "Xtream Codes" (or "Xtream API") is now simply the common name for that login format. Using it doesn't depend on the original software.
The three fields explained
| Field | What it is | Example format |
|---|---|---|
| Server URL (host) | The address of your provider's server, sometimes with a port number | http://example-server.com:8080 |
| Username | Your account username | user12345 |
| Password | Your account password | Provided by your IPTV service |
Some apps also ask for a playlist name — that's just a label for you, and anything works.
How to log in with Xtream Codes
- Open your IPTV player app and choose Add user, Add playlist or Login with Xtream Codes API.
- Type a name for the playlist (for example, "Living room").
- Enter the server URL exactly as given, including http:// or https:// and any :port at the end.
- Enter your username and password. They are usually case-sensitive.
- Select Add user or Log in, then wait for live TV, on-demand and the guide to load.
For device-specific instructions, see the IPTV setup guide, which links to steps for Fire TV, Smart TVs, Android and Apple devices.
Why many people prefer Xtream Codes to M3U
- Three short fields are easier to type on a TV remote than one long playlist URL.
- Live channels, films and series are usually organized into separate sections.
- The program guide normally loads without a separate EPG link.
- Apps can show your account's expiry date and connection limit.
If your app only accepts playlists, use your M3U URL instead — see M3U playlists explained.
Fixing common Xtream Codes login errors
| Message | Likely cause | What to try |
|---|---|---|
| Invalid username or password | Typo, wrong letter case or extra space | Re-enter carefully; check for a trailing space after copy-paste |
| Unable to connect / server error | Wrong server URL or missing port | Check http vs https and the :port number |
| Account expired | Subscription has ended | Renew, or contact support if you've just paid |
| Max connections reached | Too many devices streaming at once | Stop playback on another device or upgrade your plan |
| Login works, but no channels | App still loading, or app incompatibility | Wait, refresh, or try a different player app |
More fixes are in our common IPTV errors guide. If you use IPTV Smarters and see “failed to authorize”, see how to fix that login error.
What the server URL can look like
Server addresses come in a few shapes, and all of them are valid as long as you type them exactly as supplied:
- A domain name with a port, such as http://example-server.com:8080
- A domain name with no port, when the service uses the standard web port
- An https:// address, for services that use encrypted connections
- Occasionally a numeric IP address with a port
Don't add a path such as /get.php to the server URL field unless your provider specifically tells you to. Xtream Codes logins expect the base address only, and the app adds the rest.
Using one login on several devices
You can usually enter the same Xtream Codes details on your TV, phone and tablet. The limit is how many devices stream at the same time, not how many have the login saved. If you hit the limit, close the app fully on devices you're not using. Our guide to using IPTV on multiple devices explains connection limits.
When your provider changes server details
Providers sometimes move to a new server address or port. When that happens, every saved login stops working at once, often with a connection or authorization error. Update the server URL in each app's user or playlist settings rather than deleting everything, and keep the provider's latest details somewhere safe, such as a password manager.
If you use IPTV Smarters Pro, our Smarters Pro setup guide shows where these settings live.
Keep a copy of the original details your provider sent, so you can re-enter them exactly if an app update or a reinstall clears your saved login.
Keep your login safe
Your Xtream Codes details give access to your subscription. Don't share them, and only enter them into apps from developers you trust. If you think someone else is using your account — for example you keep seeing "max connections reached" — ask support to reset your password.
Frequently asked questions
Can I see when my subscription expires?
Many player apps show the account's expiry date and connection limit in their account or user-info screen when you log in with Xtream Codes.
Does Xtream Codes work on every device?
It works wherever you can install a player app that supports it, which covers most Android TV, Fire TV, Apple and smart-TV platforms. Check the app's description before installing.
Is the Xtream Codes password the same as my account password?
Not necessarily. Some providers issue separate streaming credentials. Use the details your provider gave you for player apps, and never reuse an important password there.
Is Xtream Codes the same as an M3U playlist?
They access the same service in different ways. Xtream Codes uses a server URL, username and password; M3U uses a single playlist link.
Do I need the port number in the server URL?
If your provider includes one (for example :8080), yes. Leaving it out is one of the most common causes of connection errors.
Which apps support Xtream Codes?
Many IPTV player apps on Android TV, Fire TV, Apple TV, Samsung, LG, iOS and Android support it. Check the app's description for "Xtream Codes" or "Xtream API".
